Why Men Shouldn't Wear Gold? Here are 3 Reasons from Religious to Medical Perspectives

The question of men not wearing gold is often raised, especially in the midst of increasingly inclusive fashion trends. Many men have started wearing jewelry as part of their lifestyle, including gold rings or bracelets.

However, this prohibition is not just a matter of style or personal taste. In Islamic teachings and some medical findings, the use of gold by men does have a strong basis to be avoided.

So, before you decide to wear gold as jewelry or daily accessories, it is important to know the reasons why men should not wear gold. This article will discuss it in depth from two important sides of religion and medicine.

Reasons Men Should Not Wear Gold

1. Islamic Prohibition Men Should Not Wear Gold

In Islamic teachings, there is a clear prohibition that men should not wear gold, whether in the form of rings, necklaces, or other jewelry. According to the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW β€œgold and silk are permissible for the women of our Ummah, and forbidden for the men.” (HR. An-Nasa’i)

This Hadith clearly states that gold should not be used as jewelry by Muslim men in any form, be it bracelets, necklaces, rings, or watches.

The prohibition of men not wearing gold is not only about appearance, but also relates to the values of simplicity and separation of roles between men and women. Islam recommends that men look modest and not overdo it in style.

2. Wisdom Behind the Prohibition of Men Not Wearing Gold

Another reason men should not wear gold from a religious perspective is to avoid an excessive lifestyle or showing off wealth. Gold, as a symbol of luxury, can lead to arrogance or distance a person from the values of humility taught in Islam.

Islam views that men have a great responsibility in family and community affairs. Therefore, Islam directs men to focus more on responsibility and charity, not physical luxury.

By not wearing gold, men are taught not to get caught up in appearances, but rather in the more essential values and functions of life.

3. Men Should Not Wear Gold Medically

Medically, there are strong reasons why men should not wear gold, especially in the long run. One of the health risks to watch out for is the potential development of alzheimer’s disease, a brain disorder that causes a decline in memory and cognitive abilities.

In addition, research shows that prolonged use of gold jewelry can lead to the migration of gold atoms into the body. These gold atoms can seep into the skin layer, then enter the bloodstream and accumulate in certain organs, including the brain.

This happens because there is no natural mechanism in the male body to excrete the accumulated precious metal. Unlike women who biologically experience menstruation, one of the natural pathways for removing substances from the male body does not have a similar mechanism.

As a result, piles of gold atoms can more easily accumulate and endanger men’s health, including increasing the risk of neurological disorders such as alzheimer’s. Not only that, gold atoms are also found in excess levels in the urine of men who wear gold regularly.

From this, it can be concluded that the prohibition of men not wearing gold is not only based on religious values, but also reinforced by medical findings that show potential dangers to physical and mental health.

Alternatives to Gold

If you still want to look stylish without violating religious restrictions or medical risks, there are many other metal options that can be used. Silver, titanium, or even stainless steel can be safe alternatives for rings or other accessories.

By choosing safer alternatives, you can still maintain your appearance without sacrificing religious or health values. Because at the end of the day, a healthy and balanced lifestyle doesn’t have to go against your beliefs or comfort.

You can still be the best version of yourself with full awareness of the choices you make.
